6 Days Hike of Imatong Mountains of South Sudan.

Imatong Mountains are found in the south-eastern part of South Sudan, Eastern Equatoria State.  It is made up of a collection of many mountains with Kinyeti being the highest peak at about 3,180 metres and Imatong being the second highest at 2,500 metres. The mountains are easily accessible through the Town of Katire that is 2 hrs from Torit or a distance of 190 km from Juba City. The region is predominantly settled by South Sudanese farmers who have cultivated the region for generations. The mountain also has many forests that host many species of indigenous trees, wildlife and birds. It also sees much rainfall throughout most part of the year with its water flowing through many streams that crisscross the mountain terrain into River Kinyeti. The Town of Katire has lately become famous due to increased interest in South Sudan Tourism and Tours from both domestic and international tourists who mostly go there to hike the two peaks, enjoy the cold weather and the views of mountains and hills around it.

Day 1: Arrival to Juba City.

Arrive in Juba City where you will be taken to your hotel for the night. You will then spend the afternoon touring the city and rest at the riverside at the evening.

 

Day 2: Drive to Katire Town at the foot of Imatong and Kinyeti Mountains.

Early in the morning we will drive to Katire Town Imatong through the town of Torit and arrive there in the afternoon. The journey will take 5-6 hours. We will spend the night at Imo Resort.

 

Day 3: Hike the Imatong Mountains.

Very early in the Morning and after breakfast (6 am) we start our climb to the top of the mountain with the help of experience local tour guide and porters. We will spend the whole day climbing the mountain and stop only for refreshment and lunch (the hike will take 7/8 hrs). We will camp for the night at the chief residence at about 2000 meters.

 

Day 4: Climb the peak of Imatong Mountain and Descent to Katire Town in the afternoon.

At 6 am after breakfasts we will start the final ascend to the Peak of Imatong Mountain (it will take 4 hrs) and from 12 noon we start descending to Katire Town and spend the night at Imo Resort.

 

Day 5: Drive back to Juba City from Katire Town.

At 10 am we will start our drive back to Juba City through Torit Town where we will stop for lunch. We will arrive in Juba in the afternoon.

 

Day 6: Rest Day/ Tour of Juba City.

After doing the Covid 19 PCR test we will have the whole day touring Juba City where we will visit the markets, art gallery and famous places before resting at the riverside (River Nile).

 

Day 7: Departure.

We will transfer you to the airport and bid you farewell.

Important to Note:

  • South Sudan Visa can only be obtained through the government website by using the following link https://www.onlinevisa.com/south-sudan-visa/
  • Invitation letter from the host is required for visa application. We shall send that to you when we agree on terms and condition.
  • PCR test for Covid-19 is mandatory and the certificate should be valid at the time of arrival at Juba International Airport. Even the vaccinated people.
  • All your photographic equipments must be cleared with the South Sudan government. We will take care of that.
